Pranayama

Pranayama in Spain

Pranayama is the practise of yogic breathing. In our day to day life we breath unconscious. Which is a shame as the breath is one of the major factors for a healthy body and active lifestyle. With Pranayama we practise to breath consciously – with full awareness. What will result in direct results like more energy and more subtle health benefits.

Health benefits of Pranayama

Conscious breathing is nothing new. It is dated from way back in the famous (for yogis) Vedic scriptures. Mainly due to its incredible power as you can read below in the magic of the breath. But also scientific prove is given for the health benefits of Pranayama:

  • Improvement of the digestive system which leads to weight loss
  • Improves breathing
  • Reduce of fat collection around the stomach
  • Good for your cardiovascular (heart and blood) health

Magic of the breath

Another word for Pranayama is life force. The more oxygen our body enters, the more energy we get. To quote my Indian Pranayama teacher Guruij: “With more energy comes higher responsibility”. A responsibility to use your energy to create good things. Therefore an important part of the Pranayama practise is purification of our body and our thoughts. We do this through breathing techniques. With pure thoughts, comes good actions. Actions that lead to a better world for yourself and others. It may seem a bit distant from breathing and the Western way of thinking. But it is the result, according to the Vedic scriptures, that your Pranayama practise can bring you. So let’s focus on our breath for a happy world!
